Spring has sprung and in the spirit of the season Picayune Main Street Inc. will host their first Picayune Spring Palooza event this Saturday at Jack Read Park and on Canal Street.

Many of the activities planned are appropriate for all ages, including a silly hat parade, prizes, food, music and classic cars. Activities geared toward children include a fun jumper, putt putt golf, and minnow race just to name a few.

There will also be an Egg-A-Treat event held by participating downtown merchants, where children will go door to door to each merchant and receive an egg in Trick or Treat style. A free train ride, sponsored by Steve and Ann McDonald, will transport participants to the event on Canal Street. This is an Easter twist on a Halloween tradition. It will also be a great opportunity to visit shops downtown.

Adults and children alike will enjoy the classic car display from the Boulevard Cruisers.

Other activities will include egg throwing, sweet walk, face painting and other games. The sweet walk is similar to a cake walk, but with cupcakes.

When you and the little ones get hungry hot dogs with chili, grub worms and a nice glass of Eliza Jane’s Frog Lemonade can recharge you. Don’t worry, the grub worms are actually gummy worms. It is currently a mystery if the lemonade will contain real frogs.

Fish and jambalaya plates will be sold beginning at 4 p.m., immediately following the Soggy Bottom Jambalaya cook-off, which begins at 3 p.m. Plates will be $8 each.

Animal lovers will want to watch or participate in the Senior Center’s Paw di Gras and Pals Parade. This event sounds like fun as pets and their owners will don their favorite festive wear, and throw trinkets to the public.

Main Street intends to make this an annual event, so get out there and enjoy the day close to home.
