Reed Y. Whipple passed away on Wednesday March 12, 2014 at his home in Carriere, Miss., surrounded by his children and grandsons (Tim and Aitor Goyogana). Born March 30, 1936 in Lakeside Arizona to Fern E. (Seeley) and Reed Yeager Whipple.
Reed served in the USMC 1953 to 1956. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton 1st Marine Division and also served in Korea.
Beloved father of Debra Whipple Pierson, Loveland, Colo., Enola (Rueben) Flores, Madras, Ore., Bert (Teresa) Whipple, Slidell, La., Joel (Harry) Whipple, Los Angeles, Calif., Ora Belle Spaulding, Casper, Wyo., Quita Andrews, Lorain, Ohio, Gaye (Criss) Fraley, Amherst, Ohio, Christine (Brett) Wuest, Wilsonville, Ore., Carol (Don) Pecot, Amite, La., Linda Chauvin, Waggaman, La., William (Deborah) Greer, Slidell, Ruby (John) Morgan Meridian, Miss.; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Survived by his brother Lee (Ethel) Whipple, Phoenix, Ariz., and sister Lillis (Stan) Moulton, Hondo, Texas.
Married Joye Sigman, Ajo, Ariz., Dec 1955, divorced April 1969; Geneva Quinn, Nov 1969, Why, Ariz., preceded him in death June 1993; then married Gladys “Dean” Greer, Dec 1993, Slidell, she preceded him in death September 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reed and Fern; brothers John and Bert; sisters, Marlene and Viola; and great-grandson Jason.
Also, survived by his work family at Boh Bros, New Orleans, La., whom he was proud to be a part of. He was honored to work alongside his son Bert.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 374, Slidell, Sons of the American Legion, V.F.W. Post 3804, Picayune, Miss., Marine Corps League Det, 1250, Loveland.
He loved the outdoors and designing his personal home garden park. He had very unique taste and could visualize masterpieces. He could build and fix anything, if he couldn’t fix it then neither could anyone else. His motto was “As good as the best and better than the rest”.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (Forest Lawn Cemetery), in Slidell, Monday March 17, 2014. Viewing 9-11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave., Biloxi, Miss., at 2:30 p.m. after the service.
