Picayune moved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in district action with the win. Lee also picked up the win in a 7-0 win over Long Beach last week.

Picayune wasted no time in taking a lead over the homestanding Hurricanes, as Hayden Falls drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first frame for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Maroon Tide extended their advantage to 3-0 in the third, thanks to an RBI-ground out from Devin Hedgepeth as well as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dalton Hedgepeth.

Picayune then sealed the win with a six run outburst in the seventh stanza, off just two hits. Brady Warden drove in a pair of runs with a single, while Falls added an RBI-double.  Dalton Hedgepeth drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Gary Van Buren scored a run as well.

Lee tossed a complete game three hitter, striking out five and walking just two. The Hurricanes really only threatened just once, when Lee worked his way out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the fourth with a strike out and a ground out. He has now thrown 13 innings in league play without allowing a run.

The teams were slated to meet again Friday in Picayune, but that game has been moved to tonight.

In other Region 7-5A play Tuesday night, Long Beach handed Stone County it’s first league loss winning 1-0 in 10 innings. Both the Bearcats and Tomcats are 2-1 in league play just like Picayune.

• Visiting Pass Christian handed Poplarville its first Region 8-4A loss of the season Tuesday night.

The Pirates rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to break open a 1-1 tie and take a 3-1 win.

The Hornets are now 6-7 overall and fall to 2-1 in league play. The Pirates are 2-1 in the loop as well.

Poplarville out-hit the Pass 8-5, but couldn’t come up with the win. Blake Ladner took loss.

Hayden Freeman and Austin Darden had a pair of hits apiece to pace Poplarville at the plate. One of Freeman’s hits was a double.

With the Poplarville loss, St. Stanislaus took over sole possession of first place in the district race. The Rockachaws shut down Moss Point 10-0 Tuesday night. Greer Holston went five innings for the win, holding Moss Point to two hits while fanning eight. Jonathan Artigues had two hits and three RBIs for SSC (9-3, 3-0 Division 8-4A). Irby Dossett and Joe Guillott added two hits each. Moss Point fell to 0-3 in league play.

In other Region 8-4A play, Roman Moran pitched a complete game and also drove in two runs as Vancleave won 7-1 at Bay High. Moran allowed just an unearned run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts for the Bulldogs (5-7, 2-1 region). Bay High is also 0-3 in league play.
