Picayune hosts arch-rival PRC

Picayune and Pearl River Central renew their rivalry on the softball diamond tonight.

The Lady Tide hosts the Lady Devils at 7 p.m., with each team looking to get back on the winning track.

Picayune stands 3-8-1 on the season, and has lost six of its last seven games. Pearl River Central has played just once in the past 12 days, and stands 4-4 on the year.

Picayune dropped a pair of games on the road in Hurley Friday, losing to Theodore, Ala., 8-0 and then to host East Central 10-4.

The Lady Tide managed just one hit in the loss to Theodore, a single by Marissa McDonlad. Megan Dudenhefer took the loss.

Elizabeth Taggard took the loss against ECHS. The Lady Tide got just four hits, including a two run double by Rylee Dawsey and a run scoring double by Alyssa Pinero.

On Saturday, Picayune split a pair of games in the Pass Christian Tournament. Picayune began the day by whipping Gautier 14-3. Taggard picked up the win., while Dudenhefer had a big game at the plate smacking a home run and driving in four runs. McDonald had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as well. Both Jennifer Walker and Pinero drove in a pair of runs each in the winning effort also, and Dawsey scored three runs.

Picayune followed that win up with a close 5-4 loss to OLA. Deudenhefer took the loss, while Taggard and Jennifer Walker each drove in runs.

Monday night, visiting St. Martin took an 8-2 decision from Picayune. Dudenhefer took the loss on the hill, and drove in a run at the plate. Alyssa Scott also drove in a run for Picayune.

• Pearl River Central is coming off a 16-7 win over Pass Christian Tuesday night. Taylor Harris picked up the win, and Hailee Buras finished up on the hill.

Brooklyn Kirk had a pair of hits in the win for PRC, while Austin Pruitt and Gabby Keller also collected a pair of hits apiece.

The two rivals will meet again Saturday morning in Carriere with action beginning at 9:30.

In other softball action of local interest,  OLA beat Hancock 9-7 Tuesday night.

Mattie Huey had three hits and three RBI as the Lady Crescents improved to 3-4. Taylor Huey added three hits; Dallas Blaker struck out 10 to record the victory.

Also, Pascagoula beat Vancleave 3-1 as Victoria Hunter, Carlie Vice and Jamie Pugh all had two hits to lead the Lady Panthers. Pugh also got the win, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
