Orchid sweeps award categories

Submitted blue ribbon: Aunt Alma was a blue ribbon winner for master gardener Joy Lorenz at this year’s Gulf Coast Orchid Society Show.  The plant also earned the Best in Class award and Best Oncidium Alliance trophy.

Joy Lorenz, Pearl River County Master Gardener, recently participated in the Gulf Coast Orchid Society Show in Gautier.  Joy  has been a  member of the Gulf Coast Orchid Society for about four years. Her prize winning plants were displayed at the Mobile Society Orchid Show Feb. 28 through Mar. 2, this year.

The large pink pendant flowered plant is a Dendrobium aphyllum ‘Aunt Alma’. It received a Blue ribbon, a tricolor for Best in class, and a trophy for Best Dendrobium Alliance.  The tall yellow flowered plant is an Oncidium hybrid.  It received a Blue ribbon, a tricolor for Best in class, and a trophy for Best Oncidium Alliance.
