“On Feb. 13, at 3:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to Ridge Road near Runway Road, in reference to a vehicle crash,” Magri said. “Upon arrival officers observed a vehicle which was positioned halfway into the ditch and halfway into the roadway of Ridge Road.”

A male subject, later identified as 23-year-old Wesley Gage Lucas of 50 Ridgeway Lane, in Carriere, Magri said, was in the vehicle.

“The investigation at the scene showed that the vehicle was traveling south on Ridge Road near Runway Road when the vehicle left the roadway on the left-hand side of the road, causing the vehicle to lose control and cross back over the roadway at which time it struck a light pole on right side of road near Runway Road,” Magri said. “Officers had the ambulance, Picayune fire rescue and Coast Electric dispatched to the scene due to power lines being down and on the car.”

Ambulance personnel advised that the subject had expired at the scene, at which time the coroner was dispatched to the scene. After the coroner arrived, Lucas was pronounced dead, Magri said.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The coroner said the cause of death appeared to be blunt force trauma.
