Charles Hunger, 69, a resident of Picayune, Miss., and a native of New Orleans, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his home. He was an accomplished wildlife artist and professional taxidermist for over 30 years, specializing in private collections and museum mounts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Hunger, Sr. and Henrietta Diebold Hunger.

He is survived by: his loving wife and best friend of 28 years, Julie Garretti Hunger; one daughter, Kristin Callahan and her husband Kevin; two sons: Kevin Hunger and his wife Kelly; and Charles Hunger, III and his wife Kristy; two brothers, Robert Hunger and his wife Melinda, and Henry Hunger; and eight grandchildren: Zackary, Kaitlin, Kameron, Corey, Colby, Casen, Chloe, and Cami. As well as his father-in-law Anthony J. Garretti, Sr.; mother-in-law Gwendolyn G. Bethancourt; brother-in-law Anthony J. Garretti, Jr. and his wife Arleen and their sons Julian and Jared; sister-in-law Michelle G. Cooper and her husband B.J. Cooper; sister-in-law Gina G. Charlet and her husband George J. Charlet III and their children Georgia, Maggie, and Milo. And a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Charlie was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was an American patriot who truly loved his country. He served as a Merchant Marine, and was a 1st Class Machinist. He was a Master Counselor of the International Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine, Gulf Coast Chapter. He was a Gold Medal recipient of Winemaker Magazine’s International Wine Competition. He was a dedicated Board Member of the Louisiana Indian Heritage Association, and was a well-known Native American artist.
Visitation will be at Grace Memorial Church, 58516 Pearl Acres Road, Slidell, La., on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Bob Heustess.
