Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1 p.m. for Mrs. Paulette S. Rhodes, 58, of Poplarville, Miss., who passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 in Poplarville.

The Rev. Joey Marks will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Hart’s Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.

A native of Poplarville Miss., she was disabled, and a member of Green Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Major and Hazel Smith, and one son, H.B. Rhodes Jr.

Survivors include: her husband, H.B. Rhodes of Poplarville; five daughters: Felechia Swain, Luthrica Smith, Latasha Smith, Sharonda Rhodes, all of Poplarville; Lawonda Rhodes of Fort Polk, La.; one step-son, Curtis Raine of Hattiesburg, Miss; six grandchildren; three brothers, Major Smith, Johnny L. Smith, both of Poplarville; Claude Earl Smith of Washington; two sisters, Peggy Bonner of Poplarville, and Geraldine Stone of D’Iberville, Miss.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2013 from 12 noon-1 p.m. at Green Grove Baptist Church.

Barbara Mizell began working for the Picayune Item in 1993. She started during the "cut and paste" days of the newspaper, and was the first to create a newspaper page using the computer for the Item. She has served as Composing Supervisor and honorary Religion Editor. Of all the contributions she has made over her 20 years at the Item, she is most proud of the World War II book "The Greatest Generation." Barbara was born and raised in the White Sand Community on Lee Hill, she has also written many short stories about growing up on the hill.
