Luta “Marie” Babineaux Weiskopf, laid to rest peacefully with the Lord on  Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of Wieskopf clrthe late George B.  Weiskopf, Jr.  Loving mother of Connie W. Bauer, (Buddy),  Debbie W.  Mones, (Nicky),  Janice W. Strelau and the late Donald, Mark and Wayne  Weiskopf.   Mother-in-law of Sunday and Shannon Weiskopf .  Daughter of the  late Ernest J. Babineaux and Avelia B. and John LeBleu.  Sister of Delores B.  LeJeune (Dave) and the late Juanita B. Hall and  Loretta B. Gilly. Also survived by 20 grand children and 29 great grandchildren.

Marie was a native of Elton, La., and a resident of Chalmette, La. for 55 years.  Since 2005 she has resided in Picayune, Miss.  Marie was the former president of the “Our Lady of Prompt Succor Altar Society“, a member of The Blue Army and the recipient of the “Order of St. Louis New Orleans Archdiocese” medal.  She was a devoted parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, La. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Barbara Mizell began working for the Picayune Item in 1993. She started during the "cut and paste" days of the newspaper, and was the first to create a newspaper page using the computer for the Item. She has served as Composing Supervisor and honorary Religion Editor. Of all the contributions she has made over her 20 years at the Item, she is most proud of the World War II book "The Greatest Generation." Barbara was born and raised in the White Sand Community on Lee Hill, she has also written many short stories about growing up on the hill.
