Ms. Jackie Kellar, 81, of Poplarville, 
Miss., passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 in Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.
Ms. Kellar was born May 9, 1932 in Picayune. She was an employee of Grace Healthcare as a marketing professional. Jackie was a licensed practical nurse and a social worker with Oxford Health and Rehabilitation for 29 years. A founder of the Marketing Professionals for Senior Living (MPSL); she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Mississippi Department of Health for her work with the Alzheimer’s Association; and featured in Senior Lifestyles Magazine as Senior of the Month. At a young age, she accepted Christ in her life and was baptized at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Poplarville.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Andrew Jasper and Virdie Burge Thigpen; her husband of 48 years, Julius Kellar; one son, Charles Kellar; one daughter, Judy Kellar; and one granddaughter, Wanda Kellar Easterling.
Survivors include: two daughters, Anita Kellar and Doyla Kellar Ashe, both of Poplarville, Miss.; one brother, Jerry Thigpen; and one sister, Janell Easterling, both of Picayune; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at White Funeral Home in Poplarville.

Barbara Mizell began working for the Picayune Item in 1993. She started during the "cut and paste" days of the newspaper, and was the first to create a newspaper page using the computer for the Item. She has served as Composing Supervisor and honorary Religion Editor. Of all the contributions she has made over her 20 years at the Item, she is most proud of the World War II book "The Greatest Generation." Barbara was born and raised in the White Sand Community on Lee Hill, she has also written many short stories about growing up on the hill.
