PICAYUNE — Recent events have highly emphasized the importance of teamwork.

Just this past week, we celebrated the Picayune Maroon Tide’s State Championship win, as a county, in the form of a parade that was put on by the City of Picayune with input from the Picayune School District; the Picayune Police Department ended a high speed chase of an armed robbery suspect working with law enforcement from La. and the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the capture of a suspected child abductor with Picayune Police and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

These all ended in the best manner possible because the full cooperation of all parties involved was given, along with one hundred percent of effort.

The Maroon Tide Parade was attended from people county- wide as well as out of state. The event planning began the moment the team won the Championship game. Multiple meetings were held at city hall, which included media, city workers, school officials and other citizens. The cooperation between the city, school and citizens truly paid off for all who attended.

On Tuesday, the armed robbery of a local business proved how effective law enforcement is when they practice open communication and cooperation. The chase ended in St. Tammany Parish, in La. but with the departmental efforts, the suspect was apprehended with no serious damage to other citizens and recovery of property.

On Wednesday, during the hunt for the suspect who abducted two local children, the local law enforcement departments worked with Hancock County law enforcement for a speedy apprehension of the suspect who has been charged with heinous acts. If the departments had not worked closely and swiftly, the outcome could have been much different.

The point is, that teamwork is crucial to efficient progress in any situation. One person cannot carry the burden nor garner the glory.
