Vocability:Telling fairy tales

Published 6:28 pm Sunday, October 20, 2013

I had severe asthma as a child and teen, so I passed my time reading. Before I could actually read words, I “read” pictures in the books. There was a love for words and the imagery they could create before I knew what the word “imagery” meant.

Our parents invested in a collection of literature with age appropriate colored binders; they were the salvation of my days before and after I learned to read. The international fairy tales were always my favorite and with the upcoming Greater Picayune Arts Council (GPAC) Fairy Tale Fall Festival I thought it would be fun to have that be the focus this week.

What I didn’t expect was the amnesia that came attempting to recall the authors of the fairy tales; some of whom may be in dispute due to similiarities with tales written decades prior.
