During a traffic stop on Sept. 12 at 10:50 a.m. on South Main Street, a Poplarville Police officer discovered a man wanted in Tennessee for felony reckless driving, said Capt. Rossi Creel with the Poplarville Police Department.

Creel said the officer pulled over  a white, Chevrolet Blazer for having no brake lights. The officer was able to obtain an Oklahoma identification card that identified the driver as Randy Dale Carroll, 36, formerly of Oklahoma, with a current address of 211 Richardson Rd. in Picayune.

Creel said the officer requested the help of Picayune Police dispatchers in running Carroll through the NCIC system. The NCIC check discovered that Carroll was wanted in Bradley County, Tenn. for felony reckless driving.

Poplarville Police arrested and charged Carroll with improper equipment, no proof of liability insurance and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Creel said Carroll will be extradited to Tennessee to answer to charges in Bradley County.

On Oct. 3 at 7:25 p.m., Poplarville Police officers were called to the Dollar General Store on South Main Street to investigate a shoplifting report. Creel said upon the officers’ arrival at the store, the manager told the officers that he and a clerk had seen two customers place several items in their purses. The manager pointed out the two customers to the officers and officers continued to observe them check out and pay for a few items.

Police then stopped the two customers, Ariel White, 20, of 11 Frank Henry Rd., and Dijonnaise Jones, 19, of 109 Rawls St. in Poplarville, in the parking lot to inspect their purses. Inside the purses were several items that apparently hadn’t been purchased, which the manager identified as items he and the clerk witnessed White and Jones putting in their purses.

The value of the items was approximately $40, Creel said.

He said both suspects were charged with one count each of misdemeanor shoplifting.
