On August 19, 2013 at the age of 72, Mr. Gilmore succumbed to his battle with cancer. God saw he was tired and allowed RW to walk through the valley where he feared no evil.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mr. Willie and Mrs. Mamie Carter Gilmore; brother, Willie J.R. Gilmore; and two sisters, Mrs. Alice M. McCree and Mrs. Mattie Mae Simmons.
