Funeral Services for Helen G Underwood, 85, of Carriere, Miss., who passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 7-10 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial, Poplarville, Miss. under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

The Rev. Megan Becnel will officiate the service.

A native of Alberta, Canada, she was a resident of Pearl River County for 37 years.

Although she listed homemaker as her main occupation, Helen was a lifelong community activist. Among her numerous involvements, she was a founding member of the ARC and was instrumental in the creation of the Pearl River Infant program and the sheltered workshop. She was a member of the HAWL Garden Club, Picayune on Stage, The Newcomers Club, the Republican Women. She was President of the local chapter of the AARP and moved on to serve as the Assistant State Director for many years. In later years she was involved in the Area Agency on Aging. In addition to the Great Wall of China and the path to Golgotha in Jerusalem, she was widely traveled.

Helen will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Survivors include: her children, John W. Underwood and his spouse Cynthia, of Starkville, Miss., James W. Underwood and wife Tamara of Eugene, Ore., and Mary Ann Berry and her spouse Dr. Martin Berry of Picayune, Miss.; her grandchildren, Joseph, Jason and Cheyenne Underwood of Starkville, Logan and Quinn Underwood of Vancouver, BC Canada, Jarrad Berry and wife Kelly of Philadelphia, Pa., Jacob Berry and wife Erica of Carriere, Jonah Berry of Oxford, Miss., and Jordan Berry of Picayune; three great-grandchildren in Picayune; and two great-grandchildren of Philadelphia. She was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, James W. Underwood, Jr. in 1981.
