A Roseland Park Baptist Church Academy employee allegedly was found to be in possession of marijuana when she was stopped for an obstructed license tag.

In a second case, a traffic stop of another vehicle found that driver allegedly to be in possession of a schedule II narcotic for which she did not have a prescription.

Both traffic stops were conducted by narcotics detectives on Feb. 19, said Maj. Donnie Saucier.

A stop on a vehicle traveling near Sam Mitchell Road on U.S. Highway 11 found 42-year-old Robette M. Watts Brewer of 61 Watts Rd., behind the wheel, said Saucier. During the stop the detective detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting a search, Saucier said.

In the search, the detective found a bag of marijuana and in her purse the detective found a pipe allegedly used to smoke marijuana, Saucier said. She was charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and obstructed tag, Saucier said. A call by the Picayune Item to Roseland Park Baptist Church Academy’s director, Perry Keys, confirmed the school has a Robette Brewer on staff, and that she had alerted the management to the incident but said the drug belonged to a friend to whom she was giving a ride, so the charges against her were dropped.

In answer to a subsequent call to Saucier to determine if the charges had been dropped and if a friend was with Brewer at the time of her arrest, Saucier said Brewer is still facing the charges and that she was alone in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. It is unclear whether Brewer had a passenger with her prior to the stop, Saucier said.

In a separate case, a narcotics detective conducted a stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Goodyear Boulevard and U.S. Hwy. 11 for running a red light. Saucier said the detective came into contact with the driver, identified as 51-year-old Twila A. Griggs of 1002 Avenue H., Bay St. Louis.

A check of her driver’s license determined it was suspended for a DUI, Saucier said. In a search of her vehicle, Saucier said the detective found four Endocet pills, a schedule II controlled substance, for which Griggs did not have a prescription, Saucier said.

Griggs was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, running a red light and driving while license suspended, Saucier said.
