A Poplarville man has been charged with the sexual battery of an underage girl.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said Detective Brandon Carr has been investigating the case against 45-year-old Clyde Williams of 429 H. Burge Rd., Poplarville, since it was reported at the end of July.

The allegation was made to the department  on July 31 that Williams had been molesting a juvenile female for the past three years, or since she was 14, Tucker said.

Through the three months of investigation since, bodily fluid forensic evidence was obtained that directly linked Williams to the crime, Tucker said. The Chief Deputy said that evidence provided the department with enough to arrest Williams on Monday morning for the charge of sexual battery.
