BEFORE AND AFTER

The Pearl River County board of supervisors replaced another problem bridge. The county utilized grant funds made available by MDOT’s State-aid Road Division. The bridge replaced was located on Sones Chapel Road, at Double Branch. The before photo, at left, illustrates how the bridge had been struck by a vehicle not long before the photo was taken. County Engineer Les Dungan said the bridge that was replaced was more narrow than desired and had been struck several times by vehicles. This made the bridge replacement project a priority with the county. The bridge was replaced with a cast-in-place concrete box bridge and the roadway constructed to a width not requiring guard rails, below. The project was completed by Holliday Construction, LLC, of Poplarville at an approximate cost of $215,000.
