Have you ever wondered what happened to all the Indians in the area of Caesar (Center) in the early 1900s? Clara Howard, a retired history teacher and member of the local archeological association, will present some of her research findings at the September 14 “History ‘n Lunch” meeting of the Historical Society.

The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the meeting room of Crosby Library. It is a brown bag luncheon meeting, with dessert and drinks provided by the Historical Society. Mrs. Howard will present an overview of Indians who came to America during the Paleolithic, Archaic and Woodland time period.

She will also give a brief overview of the local Indians. The first contact with Indians in this area was by the French, where they met the Acolapissa, located on the Pearl River. She will discuss the Choctaws of Caesar (Center) and Hobolochitto and the transfer of the land to Stephen Jarrell, the Indian removal, and the Indians of Devil Swamp and what happened to them. Indian artifacts collected by the archeological society will be on display.

The public is invited to come and share in our local history. The program will be finished in time to return to work or to visit with members of the Historical Society.
