A spokesman for Mississippi Power said an outage early Monday morning was planned so that workcrews could upgrade a substation at Stemwood and U.S. Highway 11 North in Picayune.

Verdell Hawkins said that the outage affected about 1,700 Picayune residents and lasted from about midnight to 3:30 a.m.

He said the company had sent out notices in the mail notifying customers of the planned outage. He said Monday’s outage was the second and last that was planned.

Another planned outage occurred last week also to allow upgrades.

He said the outage was estimated to last until 5 a.m. but power crews were able to complete the upgrade quicker than planned.

He said the upgrades were made to “transmission equipment.”

He said the customers affected were inside the Picayune city limits.
