Hearing delayed in police chief’s daughter’s death

A court hearing has been postponed for the man accused of causing the accident that killed the daughter of Gulfport’s police chief.

Darrell Blappert was scheduled to have his preliminary hearing Wednesday on a felony DUI charge.

Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said that Blappert’s attorney has asked for a postponement.

Witnesses say Blappert was speeding and driving erratically before leaving the road and striking Deanna Tucker’s parked vehicle. Officers say Tucker had just put her five-year-old son in the car after leaving a bridal shop. She was pinned between the two vehicles.
