The town of New Augusta has received $50,000 as restitution from an embezzlement involving former city clerk Emily Holder.

Holder pleaded guilty in July to one count of embezzlement and two counts of forgery. Holder was accused of writing checks to herself and forging the mayor’s signature.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering on Tuesday presented a check for $50,000 to Mayor Albert Garner. Pickering says the money was recovered from the bond of Holder. Holder was sentenced to one year of house arrest and was ordered to pay restitution.
