Two separate elections are coming up and both the city of Picayune and Pearl River County are offering absentee voting.

The first election is the county election of Chancery and Circuit judge seats, an empty County Supervisor seat and other offices, which will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at precincts in various areas of the county. Pearl River County Circuit Clerk Vickie Hariel said absentee voting will be available until Saturday at noon at her office in Poplarville or at the Picayune satellite office at the new Chimney Square on Goodyear Boulevard.

On Thursday and Friday, voters can cast an absentee ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. If a county resident requires curbside service for absentee voting, Hariel suggested coming to one of those two locations in the early morning or early afternoon for the best service.

Voters should keep in mind that five precincts in the county election have been moved. Voters who live in Picayune District 1 south now vote at the Carver Museum at the end of Rosa Street where Head Start used to be located in the trailers. Poplarville District 1 voters will need to go to the old National Guard Armory at the intersection of U.S. Highway 11 and Mississippi Highway 26 to cast their vote on election day.

Picayune District 2 voters will need to cast their ballots at the new Chimney Square while voters who live in Picayune 4 east who used to vote at the National Guard Armory in Picayune have been  temporarily moved to the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department, Hariel said.

Absentee ballots also are being accepted for an election that pertains only to Picayune residents, the liquor by the drink referendum to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9. City Clerk Priscilla Daniel said absentee ballots are being accepted at the front desk of City Hall on Beech Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Absentee ballots for that election will be accepted until Saturday Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, Daniel said.

Precinct changes may or may not occur in the city election, but if they do, a later story will notify the public of those changes.
