Pearl police have charged a mother and daughter with arson in connection with a deadly 2009 house fire in which one person died.

The body of 55-year-old Joseph McWhorter was found by firefighters after the Oct. 6, 2009, blaze was put out.

Police say McWhorter’s wife, 51-year-old Mary Ellyn McWhorter, and daughter, 27-year-old Sarah Elizabeth McWhorter, both of whom lived with McWhorter, were being held in the Rankin County Jail on $500,000 bond each. An initial court appearance was pending.

Police say an investigation is continuing.
