Two suspects in the murder last week of a 26-year-old woman, whose body was found on a gravel road in Avondale, were arrested in Mississippi, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said Friday.

Normand said Curtis Kyles, 51, and Chicwanda Forbes, 25, both of New Orleans, were arrested late Thursday by members of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force at a home in the south-central town of Bassfield, Miss.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and booked as fugitives from Jefferson Parish, he said. They also will face one count each of first-degree murder and one count each of second-degree kidnapping, he said.

Kyles and Forbes waived extradition and Normand said arrangements are being made to return them to Louisiana.

Investigators also found the car that allegedly was used in the kidnapping and murder of Crystal St. Pierre. It is being towed to Jefferson Parish as evidence.

Kyles spent 11 years on death row for the 1984 murder of a woman outside a grocery store as she loaded bags into her car in broad daylight. He was ultimately released, however, after the U.S. Supreme Court found that prosecutors had withheld evidence from Kyles’ defense team.
