Picayune school board swears in new member

Picayune’s Separate Municipal School District school board swore in its newest member of, Ray Scott, during the Tuesday meeting.

Scott is filling the empty spot left when former member Harvey Miller stepped down due to a Chancery Court ruling stating he could not hold the Picayune City Manager position and a position on the Picayune school board.

In other business the school board heard from Picayune Memorial High School Principal Kent Kirkland concerning the school helping students prepare for the upcoming state testing. That testing will focus on Algebra I, Biology, U.S. History and English II, Assistant Superintendent Brent Harrell said.

All school board members soon will attend a rescheduled training session. That session was set for Feb. 12, but a forecast of adverse weather, which never came through, pushed it back.

Superintendent Dean Shaw said that training session now will be held Saturday morning at 9. In the session, the board members will cover their duties and roles as board members.

The board also decided to change its board meeting schedule for the month of March.

Shaw said the board now will have two meetings instead of one, as originally planned. The first meeting will be March 9, at 5:30 p.m. and the second meeting will be on March 23 at noon.

In other business the board;

— Tabled a 16th section matter until the next meeting.

— Approved revisions to Section F of the policy manual.
