Kennedy, gable tops in 6-5A

Picayune Lady Tide first year head basketball coach Jason Kennedy was recently named as the coach of the year in Region 6-5A.

Kennedy led his team into the state playoffs, the first trip to the postseason for Picayune in four years.

Also, Picayune’s Vince Gable was named the Most Valuable boys player for Region 6-5A.

Gable’s honor was outstanding, conisdering the Maroon Tide finished just 12-12 and did not make the playoffs. He averaged 18 points per game during his senior campaign for head coach Tom Taylor’s team.

And, Picayune’s Andrea Jackson was named the Best Offensive Player for Region 6-5A. She averaged 17 points per game for her senior season for Kennedy’s squad.

In addition, Picayune’s Melody McGill, Keanna Magee and Sharonda Jackson were named to the first team Region 6-5A squad as well.

Arianna McGill & Tee Myers were selected as Honorable Mention.

For the Maroon Tide,  Marvin Richmond was named Best Defensive Player in Region 6-5A as well.

Justin Mark, Marcus Rawls, and Derionne Stewart were named to the first team All Region 6-5A squad.

Also, Scottie Merrill made Honorable Mention.

• Both Pearl River Central teams were represented as well on the all-star lists.

PRC’s Megan Calcote and Jordan Fairconetue were named to the girls, and boys all-region teams, respectively, while Natasha Holloway and Caroline Lumpkin were named girls honorable mention and Andre Broadwater and Tyler Lee were named boys honorable mention.
