Voters approve alcohol sales

By a vote of 4-0, residents of a newly annexed area of Hattiesburg have approved the sale of alcoholic beverages.
The election was held Tuesday in a section of Lamar County annexed by the city of Hattiesburg in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The area has 10 registered voters.
City Clerk Eddie Myers tells the Hattiesburg American that four people voted in the election. All four voted to approve liquor sales.
Lamar County is dry while Hattiesburg allows allow liquor sales. When Hattiesburg expanded into Lamar County, those residents have the option to vote yes or no on alcohol sales.
Restaurants in the annexed area will have to apply for a permit to sell liquor.
