Mississippi University for Women President Claudia Limbert has whittled the options for the school’s new name down to two.

The new name will be either Reneau University or Waverley University. Limbert did not say Wednesday when she would make a final decision, which will have to be approved by the state College Board and the Legislature.

Also Wednesday, MUW released a statement from the family of Eudora Welty, in which the family said it had “declined to agree to the use of her name by MUW.” Welty briefly attended MUW and Welty University was among dozens of suggested new names for the school, located in Columbus.
