Name of Gulfport officer to be added to memorial

The name of Gulfport police Lt. Robert James Curry will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., during a Wednesday ceremony.

The 39-year-old Curry was killed Aug. 14, 2008, when his patrol motorcycle was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 49 in Gulfport.

Curry’s name will be among 387 officers who died in the line of duty to be added to the memorial and the 199th from Mississippi.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver the keynote address and lead the lighting of candles and reading of the names of the fallen officers.
