Tide golfers headed to state

Picayune took second place in the Division 8—4A golf tournament that took place Monday at the Diamondhead Country Club.

Stone High won the event with a score of 328, and the Maroon Tide finished second with a score of 347. Both Stone and Picayune qualified for the state tournament with their top two finishes. The state tourney takes place May 12-13 at River Birch Golf Club in Amory.

For Picayune, Josh Guidry fired an 80 to finish second in the individual play and make the All-Division 8-4A team, while Jamal Thompson (89), Jeremy Roberts (89), Vince Leleux (89) and Sean Thompson (93) rounded out the Picayune scoring.

Pearl River Central placed third with a 350 score. Stone’s Drew Seal was the individual medalist with a round of 79.

• The Maroon Tide warmed up for the division tourney by winning a meet at The Oaks Golf Course in Pass Christian last week. Picayune finished with a 338 to take the win, pced by low meadlist Jamal Thompson who fired a 73. It was Thompson’s second medalist title of the season. Sean Thompson (84), Jeremy Roberts (86) Andrew Barr (95) and Vince Leleux (98) rounded out the Picayune scoring
