Nine-time Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt will attend the May 7 unveiling of a Mississippi Blues Trail marker honoring the late Mississippi Fred McDowell in Como.

The McDowell marker will be the 71st for the Mississippi Blues Trail. Before his death in 1972 of cancer, McDowell gave Raitt guitar lessons.

Martha F.T. Garrison of the Como Historic Preservation Commission says Raitt was “loyal” to McDowell and bought his tombstone.
