The attorney general’s office says the arrest of a Kentucky man on charges of shipping counterfeit clothing to Mississippi marks the beginning of a state crackdown on counterfeit products.

Attorney General Jim Hood says 57-year-old Jerry Best Sr., of Louisville, Ky., surrendered to the Madison County authorities after an investigation by Hood’s Division of Consumer Protection.

Best is accused of selling counterfeit shirts on Ebay and shipping the items — which he represented as being authentic name-brand shirts — by U.S. Postal Service to a victim in Mississippi.

Hood says his office worked closely with the Kentucky attorney general’s office on the case.

It was unclear if Best, released on $10,000 bond, has an attorney.
