Ex-Taylorsville clerk indicted

Taylorsville’s former municipal court and utility department clerk has been indicted on one count of embezzlement.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering said 34-year-old Michelle Sharpley is accused of embezzling $6,041 over a nine-month period.

Sharpley was employed by Taylorsville from March 2004 to April 2008.

The indictment follows an investigation into missing utility department funds.

Smith County sheriff’s deputies arrested Sharpley April 17. She was later released on a $5,000 bond.
