A man who robbed a local check cashing business is being sought.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s to late 30s in age, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet to 10 inches tall, wearing a dark baseball cap with “WWL 4” printed on it, a dark blue polo-type shirt with collar, dark colored jeans and black shoes, according to a press releases from the Picayune Police Department.

On Wednesday, the department received a call from Check Into Cash on U.S. 11 South that the suspect had entered the store at about 10:50 a.m. and displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the business, the release states. An undisclosed amount of cash was given to the suspect before he ran out of the store in an unknown direction.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said it is not known if the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle.

“He went out the door and he just vanished,” Ervin said.

The release states responding officers missed the suspect by seconds.

Ervin said the only people in the business at the time of the robbery were the suspect and the employees. No one was injured.

Evidence collected at the scene includes surveillance video that is being studied to try to establish identification of a suspect, Ervin said. The Slidell, La., Police Department is assisting in the case due to the fact that a similar crime occurred in that jurisdiction. That crime involved the same method of operation as the crime in Picayune. However, there is not enough evidence at this point to link the two crimes, Ervin said.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Criminal Investigation Division at 601-798-0374.
