Mississippi Power schedules power outage for Poplarville

Mississippi Power Company has scheduled a four-hour interruption of electric service from midnight Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday.

The outage will affect all Mississippi Power customers in Poplarville.

“The outage is necessary to conduct maintenance at the Poplarville substation,” said Cindy Duvall, company spokesperson. “The only way to perform the work is during an outage. We hope that this advance notice will help minimize any inconvenience to our customers.”

Duval said all customers are contacted beforehand when maintenance needs such as this are scheduled. Power outages such as these are scheduled at times of minimum power usage.

She said this these contacts include customers such as the Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing Home that will have generator capacity available to provide power during the four-hour interruption.

In addition to the substation maintenance, Duval said approximately 20 additional linemen will be performing preventive maintenance on the power distribution system in the city.

In case of inclement weather, the outage will be rescheduled for the following day at the same time.
