It wasn’t a good night on the fast-pitch softball diamond for prep teams from Pearl River County Thursday night.

All three local teams fell in Division 8-4A action, as Poplarville and Pearl River Central fell on the road and Picayune lost at home.

In D’Iberville, Poplarville dropped a 2-0 decision in a meeting of previously unbeaten powers.

D’Iberville’s Kimmi Wagner, a Western Kentucky University signee, shut down the Lady Hornets on just two singles and she struck out 11.

Poplarville is 11-1 overall and 2-1 in league play while the Lady Warriors are 13-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Poplarville’s Megan Ladner struck out 12 in taking the loss and gave up six hits.

“We had some opportunities, we just could get it done,” Poplarville head coach Jonathan Ray said. “And they found some holes to be able to score their runs.”

In Long Beach, PRC drooped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision in eight innings to the unbeaten Lady Bearcats.

Baileigh Babin twirled a no-hitter for LBHS, while Becky Mitchell pitched well in defeat for the Lady Devils, which fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in league play.

“I don’t like moral victories, but last year they were beating us by 11 or 12 runs and tonight we gave them all they wanted,” PRC head coach Michael Guidry said.

Picayune also dropped to 0-3 in league play with a 7-2 loss to visiting Bay High. The Lady Tide is now 6-7 overall.

Hillary Dickens had a double and single for Picayune and Brandi Rabion added a double. Jessie Frierson took the loss.

Poplarville visits Picayune tonight while PRC hosts D’Iberville Saturday afternoon.
