Nancy Harrell Emerick

Nancy Emerick passed away on February 7, 2009 during her battle with cancer. Nancy was born Nancy Ann Harrell in Flint, Mich., in 1933 and was married there to Bruce in the summer of 1952. She and her husband moved to New Orleans in 1963.

Nancy was a strong advocate for disadvantaged children and worked for the special education classes in New Orleans Parish Schools as a teacher’s aide for 20 years, serving at Sherwood Forest Elementary and Livingston Middle Schools.

She retired to Hide-A-Way Lake in 1992 and was active in the Senior Center, St. Tammany Association of Retarded Citizens (STARC) and served as president of the Picayune Newcomers Club. She was an avid bridge player.

She will be deeply missed by: her husband, Bruce; her children, Leora, Bradley, and Matthew; and by four grandchildren: Blake, Brianna, Rohen, and Quinton; and her beloved Scottish Terrier, Duncan.

Visitation will be held at McDonald Funeral Home at 401 W. Canal St. in Picayune from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, February 13. She will be cremated in accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation.
