Scooter Robinson was caught in Hancock County the same day of his escape from jail custody while at Highland Community Hospital.

The capture of Robinson occurred Saturday night after a chase in which shots were fired and Robinson’s car caught fire.

Robinson was wanted for his escape from the Pearl River County jail after he complained of a medical ailment Saturday morning at about 12:40. He was taken to Highland Community Hospital for treatment and after he was treated he escaped as he was being escorted out to the transport vehicle. Apparently his girlfriend was waiting outside the hospital in a car parked next to the transport vehicle.

Later that day the department received information that Robinson was possibly at a location in Hancock County, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker. Deputies and investigators went to the location to check out the information. Meanwhile, the Mississippi Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they believed to be Robinson’s on U.S. Highway 90, according to a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

As the trooper approached the vehicle, Robinson sped off and the trooper gave chase, the release states.

Tucker said that chase lead Robinson right to where Pearl River County deputies and Investigators were set up. Robinson’s vehicle stopped and Pearl River County deputies and investigators approached. As one of Pearl River County’s law enforcement officials attempted to reach in the car to remove Robinson from the vehicle, he sped off, dragging the officer for a short distance, Tucker said. The officer received only minor injuries.

The press release states that after Robinson attempted to run over officers at the scene, they opened fire on the vehicle in an attempt to disable it. Tucker said the pursuit continued for a short distance after the shots were fired before the vehicle ceased to run and caught fire. Numerous departments were on the scene assisting the Highway patrol, including Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Waveland Police Department. An investigation is ongoing by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s office.

Robinson, 31, of 69 Broadridge Dr., Carriere, and his girlfriend Michelle Morris, 39, with a last known address of 67482 Slaughter Rd., Pearl River, La. were both apprehended at the scene. Robinson was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a minor gunshot wound to the leg, Tucker said.

Morris was charged with aiding and abetting in relation to Robinson’s escape. Robinson will be charged with escape in addition to the charges on which he was being held at the time of the escape, including a possession of precursor chemicals charge and a possession of a controlled substance charge. Tucker said Robinson most likely will face additional charges from various departments stemming from his actions Saturday night.
