Hinds County supervisors will use $26,000 in unpaid salaries to pay for fixing faulty electronic door locks at the youth detention center.

The money will come from District 4 Supervisor Phil Fisher’s budget for special projects officers and summer student employees.

The locks at the detention center failed in November for 10 days until they were fixed. That left staff hand-cranking doors, a potentially dangerous situation. The locking system, which is about eight years old, is not replaceable.
