BROOKLYN, Miss. — Pearl River Central won consolation games in both girls and boys action at the Forrest County AHS Tournament Tuesday.

The Lady Devils won their first game of the year and in the process gave new head coach Kevin Harris his first win at PRC with a 52-27 win over St. Patrick’s.

Kayla Drummond had 14 points, Tasha Holloway 11 and Shaneka Fowler added nine points for the Lady Devils, who move to 1-2 with the win.

“It’s good to get the first win,” Harris, who came to PRC from Potts Camp, Miss., said. “We played well in spots, especially on defense and we rebounded well. We are still rough on offense but we showed some promise.”

The PRC boys made it a sweep of the third place games, with an easy win over the home team beating FCAHS 62-36.

PRC moves to 2-1 on the season under new head coach Austin Alexander, as Josh Nixon had 23 points and Sydney Gautrau had 11 points in the win.

PRC is back in action Tuesday, travelling to Stone High.

Poplarville-Stone

WIGGINS — Visiting Poplarville split a pair of games to open its basketball season Tuesday night on the road at Stone High.

The Lady Hornets rolled to a 66-33 win over the Tomkittens, while Stone won the boys game 71-53.

For the Lady Hornets, Daiquiri Raine had a game high 17 points to pace the win, while Policia Travis had 16, Jaronda Beason 12 and Demi Beason 11 as Poplarville placed four players in double digits.

In the boys game, Lavelle Henry scored 18 as Poplarville dropped its first game under new head coach Kwame Smith.

Both Poplarville teams travel to Forrest County AHS on Tuesday.

Picayune-Ocean Springs

BILOXI — The Picayune Lady Tide dropped its second close decision in as many days in the Biloxi Tournament, falling to Ocean Springs 78-74.

The Lady Tide, now 0-2, fell despite an outstanding performance by senior post player Monique Brown who tallied a game high 40 points.

“She did a little bit of everything,” Picayune head coach kristie Mitchell said, of her standout player. “She scored inside, she hit from the outside and she drove to the basket and made opportunities for herself.”

The Lady Tide will wrap up play in the event on Thursday, playing perennial power Gulfport at 5 p.m.

Ocean Springs moved to 2-0 with the win.

Also, Picayune’s games with Lumberton scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled for now. That means that the Maroon Tide won’t open their season until Monday, on the road at Laurel under new head coach Thomas Taylor.
