Tide meets Hornets

Picayune pays its first ever visit to Poplarville’s new on campus Stadium this week.

The Maroon Tide and Hornets square off in a Region 8-4A contest at 7:00 p.m., not 7:30, Friday.

Picayune is coming off a big win over Pearl River Central, and Tide head coach Dodd Lee must prevent his troops from looking forward to a big meeting with unbeaten St. Stanislaus next week and not past the Hornets, who are coming off a 49-0 loss to D’Iberville.

The Maroon Tide is suffering through some injuries, as Picayune has been without the services of several starting offensive linemen and standout running back T’Daryl Greys as well.

Jamal Hall has rushed for almost 600 yards in Picayune’s five games. Both Hall, a sophomore, and junior Jarrod Jones ran for over 100 yards against the Blue Devils last week.

Fullback Gabe Hinojosa has also cracked the century mark this season on the ground in Picayune’s powerful rushing attack.

Adam Thomas led Poplarville with 90 rushing yards on 16 carries against the Warriors, while Ira. White added 58 yards on 10 carries.

“Unfortunately for us, Adam Thomas is a senior,” first year Poplarville head coach Chris Teal said. “He is coming along fine. He will help us more as we get along in the season.”

This is the first time Picayune has played in Poplarville in three years.
