A former lawmaker has been fined $5,000 by a federal judge for killing seven young geese at his Brandon home in April.

Former Sen. Mike Gunn pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate James Sumner to killing geese out of season. Gunn was placed on probation for a year and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.

Investigators say Gunn captured the goslings from his backyard on April 25 and placed them inside his barbecue grill. They say he took them out and put them in a trash can. He then took the trash can and put it in a pen with his dog.
