The last of two inmates who escaped from the county jail almost a year ago was found allegedly attempting to cross the United States-Mexican border.

Ten months after his escape, which entailed removal of a cinder block, Joseph Anthony Lorio, 27, of 1238 Rock Ranch Rd. was found allegedly attempting to cross the border Tuesday at about 8 p.m., said Sheriff David Allison.

Lorio was caught by the U.S. Customs in Common County Texas.

The escape took place in August of 2007 when Lorio and Joshua Cole Frierson, 25, a state inmate, removed a cinder block from their two bed maximum security cell. After removing the cinder block the two inmates escaped through the hole in the wall, according to a previous story in the Picayune Item.

Frierson was caught the next day but Lorio had eluded law enforcement until now. Allison said Lorio will be extradited back to Pearl River County soon.

In a separate escape the Sheriff’s Department has not recovered Caleb Jackson, 21, of 162 Eloise St., Nicholson. Jackson escaped from a transport van after the department’s most recently publicized drug round up.

Apparently the rear door of the transport van Jackson was held in was not secure. While at a stop light Jackson climbed over or under the rear seat he was in and opened the rear door, wearing only boxer shorts and one sock.

Jackson is described as a white male five-feet six-inches tall, 145 pounds with blonde-brown hair and hazel eyes.
