Pearl River County Sheriffs, past and present, honored the memory of a recently passed deputy.

Sheriff David Allison said Deputy Glen St. Germain passed away recently due to cancer. The illness was diagnosed in February.

Former Sheriff Joe Stuart issued a statement to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department stating that St. Germain started with the department during his administration in October of 2004 as a corrections officer. A year later he transferred to the law enforcement division of the department, graduating from the law enforcement academy in June of 2006. Stuart described St. Germain’s work ethic and character as outstanding.

“He was the kind of employee any administrator would want,” Allison read from Stuart’s statement.

Allison said while he only worked with St. Germain for a short time but he was one of the best deputies he had.

“If everyday in the world was as good a person as Glen this would be a better world,” Allison said.

St. Germain’s early exit from service with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department could only mean that God needed an excellent deputy in heaven, Allison said. St. Germain will be honored with a full policeman’s funeral. St. Germain leaves behind a wife, two sons and a number of other family members. Wake services were held at White Funeral Home in Poplarville from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m Saturday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Poplarville. Internment will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Poplarville.
