A 5-year-old boy has drowned in the Biloxi River.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove identified the child as Randy Soth of Gulfport.

Hargrove said the boy and his family were at the river Monday. He said the boy was playing in the sand and when family members were distracted apparently wandered into the water.

Hargrove said the boy was pulled from the water by a bystander, but emergency medical services personnel were unable to revive him.
