A family picnic will be held at the Poplarville City Park on Mississippi Highway 26 West, on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m..

The picnic, sponsored by the LIFE Resource Center and Community Christians Helping Youth in Picayune, will have food and refreshments for people of all ages, said LIFE Resource Center Program Director Joy Lowery.

“When we did this before, in Picayune at Nicholson Elementary, some people thought they were supposed to bring their own food, but that’s not the case. We’re providing all the food and refreshments for the day,” Lowery said.

In addition to food, the day will consist of fun activities for children, guest speakers, musical entertainment and workshops for the adults. Workshop topics will include spiritual encouragement, stress management and first aid. Children’s activities will include various games, a fun jumper, arts and crafts and the park’s playground.

“All children’s activities will be well supervised, so any adults wishing to take part in the workshops can do so without having to worry about watching their kids,” Lower said.

Other activities during the day will include informational booths, door prizes and health screenings.

Lowery said this event is the second of what the members of LIFE Resource Center hope will be four events throughout the rest of the year. Other events are proposed for August and October, although definite dates and sites have not been set yet.

Lowery said an alternate site has not been determined yet in the event of rain, but that if the weather is not accomodating, signs will be posted at the park stating where the alternate site will be.
