Picayune qualified by beating arch-rival Pearl River Central 10-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The game began on Friday afternoon and was then postponed until Saturday due to the heavy rains in the area.

Before play cam to a halt on Friday, though, the Maroon Tide scored seven runs in the top of the second to take a commmanding lead.

The win moves Picayune to 7-3 in Region 8-4A play and 18-7 overall. The Maroon Tide, Poplarville and league elading Long Beach are all assured of playoff berths.

The fourth and final spot along with the seedings will be decided this week, when Picayune meets St. Stanislaus and Poplarville and Long Beach battle for the region championship.

SSC and D’Iberville are battling for the fourth spot. D’Iberville meets Bay High in a pair of games this week.

Long Beach, despite a loss to SSC on Friday, is 8-2 in league play while Poplarville is 7-2. Poplarville was leading Bay High in the third inning Friday night when the rains came. The game is expected to be completed on Thursday night.

SSC is 5-5 in league play and D’Iberville is 4-6, but the Warriors swept the Rockachaws two weeks ago and have won six straight games.

Region 8-4A matches up with Region 7-4A in the first round, which begins on April 18th.

East Central leads that region, with Vancleave and Stone High battling for second and third.
