A busy weekend for alleged law breakers lead to a busy weekend for the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

The department’s investigators worked a number of incidents over the weekend ranging from narcotic activity tips to a domestic dispute that turned into a stabbing.

Two of the incidents involved tips from the community that lead to narcotic arrests. The first incident took place on Monday. The department got a call at about 12:20 a.m. from community members who expressed concern about suspected narcotics activity, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Donnie Saucier said. Investigators responded to the area of Shorty Burgess Road and acquired consent to search the residence at 151 Shorty Burgess Road, Lot 41.

During the search, the investigators found about a pound and a half of marijuana and two methadone pills inside the bedroom of John Albert Heidel V. Saucier said Heidel gave investigators consent to search his room. Also in the room, investigators found scales and packaging materials.

Heidel, 26, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

In another incident where the department received information pertaining to the possibility of narcotic activity, investigators responded to Earl Dubbison Road at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. As officers approached the front door of the residence they could smell the strong odor of burning marijuana coming through the open front door, Saucier said.

Elysia Boland, 21, of 189 Earl Dubbison Road, gave officers consent to search her home and also produced about two ounces of marijuana.

“She consented and turned (the marijuana) over to us,” Saucier said.

Boland was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

A suspected argument over prescription medication lead to an aggravated assault and one individual taken to the local hospital for treatment of wounds, Chief investigator Shane Tucker said.

Officers responded to 51 Shorty Burgess Rd., at about 8 p.m. Saturday, where they found a victim who had suffered stab and cut wounds. Apparently two roommates engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical over some medication. Charles High, 41, of 269 Lovell Odom Rd., Poplarville was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly cut and stabbed his roommate with what is suspected to be a pocket knife, Tucker said.

The roommate suffered wounds to his back, side and shoulder and was taken to Highland Community Hospital where he was treated and released, Tucker said.

A burglary at a residential site under construction turned up three suspects. The burglary took place a little after midnight Friday on Hokoka Road in Poplarville. Apparently the suspects cut the lock on a utility construction trailer and took air compressors, circular saws and transits. Tucker said most of the items listed as missing were recovered after they found and charged the suspects.

Three suspects identified as Daniel Britt, 20, of 5267 Miss. 43 N; Michael Reese Harberson, 17, 939 Bouie Rd., Carriere and Colby Michael Barlett, 18, of 7 Mallet Rd., Carriere, were all charged with burglary, a felony charge, Tucker said.

“Our investigation division put in a lot of time and effort over the last several days with these cases. They did a good job bringing them to successful completion,” Tucker said.
