Fire destroys home

A fire in Hancock county destroyed a home located on Road 258 but no human lives were reported lost.

Kenny Hoda, the homeowner, said he was at his father-in-law’s home just down the road when he noticed smoke emanating from his home. As he went to his house to see what was going on, he said he noticed two guys parked out front of his home. He said he did not know the men, but did say they were the ones who called 911.

As he waited on firefighters to arrive he tried to put the flames out himself.

“I tried to put water on it but it wasn’t doing no good,” Hoda said.

With his dog no where to be found Hoda said he kicked in the door and called to her.

“I believe she would have been trying to get out of there,” Hoda said.

As firefighters were dousing the flaming embers of his home, Hoda was attempting to call his wife to see if their dog was with her.

Hancock County Deputy Fire Marshal John Albert Evans said a cause for the fire has not been determined yet, but his office is still investigating the incident.
